The [Soil] Factory™

THE HOME OF ENGINEERED SOIL

HOW IS SOIL RELATED TO FACTORY?

SOIL: the upper layer of earth in which plants grow, a black or dark brown material typically consisting of a mixture of organic remains, clay, and rock particles.

FACTORY: a person, group, or institution that continually produces a great quantity of something specified.

Soil specifications differ depending on the planting region, moisture, native soil texture, soil porosity, native available minerals in the soil, organic content, and many other variables.

When The Ground Up was established in 2010, we entered the market with big ideas and a lot of enthusiasm about making great soils. Over time, we learned the soil marketplace had few and standard options. Most soil blenders will manufacture blends such as top soil, enriched top soil, landscaper’s mix, rose soil or vegetable soil and customization of soil blends was only available for large scale landscape construction.

Through the years we’ve priced out thousands of jobs for landscape contractors. In the RFP process, we’ve also read hundreds of soil specs. Not all specs are the same, but, after reading a few hundred specs, we realized there to be a large void in the market. We searched for a soil blender who specializes in engineered soils and found some companies making some very boutique blends but only providing this service to very large scale construction projects.

THE [SOIL] FACTORY was born after attending a presentation at the US Composting Council Conference in Atlanta, GA. We identified the need for a system a landscape architect can use to easily assemble an idea, have the exact cost of the product, and the ability to share the information with the contractor who will in turn use the material to create a long lasting landscaping environment.

TSF works with 31 primary ingredients and we are able to blend your ideas into a finished product.

THE [SOIL] FACTORY™ IS A DIVISION OF TGU, LLC.

Every plot of land and it’s soil has a different mineral, chemical, and physical make up. For years the soil blending industry has made products for applications specific to personal needs and some of the products currently available in the market either lack ingredients for your specific native soil composition or to re mediate an existing problem or lack off “something” within your native soil. Remediation may include factors such as and to name just a few: lack of minerals, pH balance, lack of porosity.

The Soil Factory is the only soil blending concept of its kind where a soil sample can be tested and a prescription to fix your soil can be written and an engineered soil can be produced.
