Soil pH is like the body’s internal balance system that determines how well plants can “eat” nutrients. Just as the human body needs the right balance—not too acidic or too basic—to stay healthy and properly process food, soil also needs the right pH level for plants to absorb nutrients. When the soil pH is balanced, plants can easily take in the nutrients they need to grow strong. But if the soil is too acidic or too alkaline, it’s like having food your body can’t properly digest—the nutrients may be present, but plants can’t use them effectively.
Lowering Soil pH (Make Soil More Acidic)
Elemental sulfur – best long-term option
Compost (pine or leaf-based) – mild acidifying effect
